7 Reasons You Shouldn’t Hire Me As Your Stylist

by | Apr 17, 2022 | Business Style, Personal Style | 0 comments

Are you thinking of working with a Personal Stylist?

Maybe you’re looking to be more visible in your business and you want some help and support to get you there?

If that’s the case, working with a Stylist could be really helpful.

BUT, my services might not be the right fit for you.

I know that might surprise you.  After all shouldn’t I be selling my services to anyone and everyone?

Well, I don’t feel comfortable doing that, because truth be told, I’m not 100% right for everyone!

My services will only be right for the right people with the right mindset, so that’s why I decided to write this article.

Below, I’m going to talk about the main reasons you might not achieve success with your style and visibility goals, by working with me.

I’ve also explained what you can do instead that will help you get better results if you do end up working with me in the future.

1. You’re Just Starting Your Business Or Consultancy.

When you first start your business or consultancy, you are focused on the basics of getting your business up and running.

Things like your branding, website, social media presence, ideal client, marketing, etc, are all going to be your main focus in order to get your business off the ground and bringing in some revenue.

You are probably not going to have the time to focus on your wardrobe and your Signature Style for your brand.

Obviously sorting out your Personal Brand, i.e. the way you represent yourself as part of your business is vitally important.  But in its place, after you have your business up and running and have a bit more headspace to work on the next stage.

The exception to this is if your business is going to involve speaking in person, or via video.

If you are going to be doing any type of presenting in the first stage of your business, then looking good, representing your business well, and helping people to trust you is vital, so your clothing and style could play a bit part in that.

What you can do until you are ready to work with a Stylist, is to spend time on your brand and your messaging.  Think about the message you want people to receive when they first meet you, whether that is in-person or online, and make sure your clothing and your whole look is giving the right message.

2. You Don’t Have The Budget

Obviously budget is crucially important in business, and so you want to ensure you are getting value for your money.

My Styling services are not cheap, I know that and I know there are other Stylists out there who are a whole lot more affordable.

The reason my services are more expensive is partly that I have a lot of experience having worked with numerous women over the years in all types of industries.

But the main reason my services are on the higher end is that I work as a Style Coach, rather than a Personal Stylist.

This means that I walk alongside my clients as they put my advice into practice in their wardrobes and their lives.

I want my clients to come away from working with me feeling totally confident in themselves, and able to show up for any and every business event they attend, knowing that they look good and they are giving a great first impression of their business.

To find out more about why I deliver my services differently, head to my blog post here that explains it in more detail.

What you could do if you do not have the budget right now for one of my Dream Wardrobe services, I would advise you to have a Colour Analysis for now.

Wearing the right colours that suit you and light up your complexion is probably going to make the biggest impact on your overall appearance and confidence.

Then you can come back and have the full Dream Wardrobe Service when you are ready.

3. You Don’t Have Any Time To Spend On Your Wardrobe.

My Dream Wardrobe packages are known as “done with you” services, which means that although I do a lot of the work for you, I do need you to do some things in order that we can progress.

This doesn’t involve a great deal of time, but it does mean you will need to work with me.

I will need you to do some things outside of our time together.  Without that, we will not achieve the goals you set at the start of our time together.

So in order for my services to work, you will need to put aside some time each week and/or month to help us progress.

If you are incredibly busy right now and you just don’t think you would be able to commit the time we would need, I would suggest waiting until things calm down for you, and then not only will you get more from the service, but it will be much more enjoyable as well.

4. You Don’t Think Clothing Is Important

I am quite active on LinkedIn and post a lot on there about how important it is that we look right for our businesses and that we make a good impression.

Sometimes I have conversations with people as a result of that, who do not agree with me that clothing matters and think we should not judge on appearances.

I respect their thoughts and always enjoy having a conversation around the subject.

However, my services are all about how we look and helping my clients to feel more confident every time they have to show up for their business.  So to work with me, you need to at least be open to rethinking hearing another point of view, and engaging with the process.

If you think you might want to work with a Stylist for your business in the future, I suggest reading some books on the subject in the meantime and see how you feel then.

My blog post “12 Style Books Every Style Conscious Woman Needs On Her Coffee Table” has some suggestions to get you started.

5. You Want Someone Local To Meet Face To Face

I get it, I really do.  Sometimes you want the security of meeting your Stylist in their studio before you hand over your hard-earned cash.

But for the last 5 to 6 years, I have been developing my services so that they can be delivered entirely online.  This gives me the ability to work with people all over the globe, and I love that I now have a fab community of people that I could never hope to meet face to face.

Working online also means that one or both of us saves the time and expense of traveling.

None of the clients I have already worked with online have felt that they missed out on anything.

We still spend the same amount of time together, and working online does give them a bit more privacy.  For instance, if during the service, you need to try on clothes, you can go off-camera while you change and then come back to the video when you are ready.  I help you with how to position your camera so I can see all that I need to see.

Of course, if you are close enough to me and you would prefer an in-person experience, we can always arrange that.

6. You Don’t Want To Do Any Mindset Work

If you want to be more visible in your business, and feel more confident doing so, we will probably need to do some mindset work.

Mindset work is not always easy, and so you may be unwilling to go into it, as you don’t know what you might discover.

However, it is always worth it!

Mindset work is a big part of what I do with my clients, as that’s ultimately where the extra confidence is going to come from.

If you are not ready to go into that side of things, then it might be best to wait until you feel like it is the right thing to do, and you know you will benefit from it in the long run.

Having said all of that, I will never push anybody to go into an area of themselves they are not comfortable with, so we will only go as far as you are happy with.

If you want to wait for a while and you want to prepare yourself in the meantime, I would suggest doing some reading around personal development and mindset in particular.  That will help prepare you for doing some of this work when you are ready for us to work together.

7. You’re Not Open To Trying New Things

Working with a Personal Stylist is highly likely to involve trying new things.

After all, the reason you are considering working with somebody in the first place is probably that you are fed up with what you currently wear.

So there’s no point in us suggesting you wear the same things!

I want to give you some new ideas and for you to see what different styles and colours might look like on you.  So my suggestion is to come to work with an open and curious mind, and see what happens…you might be very pleasantly surprised!

If you are not there yet and feel like trying new things might be a bit unsettling, then it might be best to wait until you feel you have the courage to go with the new ideas and see what comes of it.

What you could do in the meantime is to create a Pinterest board for yourself, of ideas you like and that might open up your horizons a little so that you would be prepared to step out of your comfort zone and have a go with some new styles.

So What’s The Next Step For You?

So there you have it, those are the main reasons you shouldn’t work with me.

It’s important to me that you understand what they are so you can decide if I’m the right fit for you.

Although this article might seem a bit blunt, it comes from a place of wanting to help you make the right choice and help you to avoid wasting time and money.

If I sound like a good fit for you, why not book a short call with me to find out more?
